In this edition, we spoke with Ammar Sawaya, Engineer-In-Training, who shares his perspective on choosing Steger Bizzell to grow his career, the goals he is working toward, and the values that guide his growth as an engineer.
How would you describe the professional atmosphere at Steger Bizzell, and what distinctive viewpoint do you contribute to the team?
At Steger Bizzell, we take our work and our clients seriously—a commitment reflected in the quality of everything we produce. What sets Steger Bizzell apart, however, is our collaborative culture. You will often find teams working closely together, combining professionalism with camaraderie and shared laughter as we deliver results.
I contribute not just by executing tasks, but by offering fresh perspectives, asking the right questions, and always pushing for innovative yet practical solutions that align with both client goals and our company’s vision.
What motivates you most about being part of the Steger Bizzell team, and how would you summarize the company’s impact on the community?
I have the opportunity to see my work make a tangible impact while improving people’s lives and contributing to the development of the communities around me. Steger Bizzell’s impact can best be described as solving real-world challenges for cities and communities across Texas, building a brighter and better Texas for all.
What has been the most pivotal career decision you have made, and what motivates your continued growth in the profession?
Taking over a client on my own at a young age, when the opportunity presented itself, allowed me to grow alongside the client, better serve their needs, and ultimately make a positive impact on the larger community. I am also motivated by the need to continually grow with our clients and with younger engineers, so that we keep moving in the right direction as an organization.
How do you manage multiple projects at once while ensuring quality control and accuracy?
My goal is to keep every project moving forward equally, always with deadlines in mind. When a project requires extra attention, I pause other projects and focus on the one most in need. If several projects require immediate attention, I make sure to address them even if it means working late hours. I also rely on my team for support, depending on the tasks and their availability.
For quality control, I carefully review everything before sending it out, often asking other project managers to review as well. I always pay extra attention when deliverables are going to a client, ensuring accuracy and professionalism in the final product.
